THE LAKE BAFA & HERACLEIA
Made by the alluvium carried by the river Meander, the Söke plain was a large gulf some 2000 years ago.
The ancient town of Heracleia was stuated by that gulf. It was possible to goto both Miletus and Priene by boat. The lake Bafa was formed by the accumulation of alluvium at the place where the gulf met the sea.
There are two islets in the lake. One of the twin islets is not a true islet in fact, but is connected to the land by a beach. One can arive at Heracleia via a village road of 10 km parking of to the Camici village by thake
